As the flagship of the EOS R line, this mirrorless camera features a 24MP BSI stacked sensor, DIGIC Accelerator processing, next-gen Dual Pixel Intelligent AF, and a durable design fit for demanding use.

With a newly designed 24.2MP full-frame back-illuminated stacked sensor, the R1 offers incredibly fast readout speeds and an impressive 40 fps continuous shooting rate with an electronic shutter, ensuring blackout-free viewing and reduced rolling shutter distortion. The sensor's back-illuminated design and DIGIC Accelerator processing contribute to high clarity and sharpness, a native ISO up to 102400, and Neural Network Noise Reduction for clean low-light performance.

For continuous shooting, the 40 fps rate works with Pre-Continuous Shooting to pre-buffer 20 frames while half-pressing the shutter, capturing moments before fully pressing the shutter. The mechanical shutter supports a top rate of 12 fps.

For higher resolution needs, the DIGIC Accelerator allows In-Camera Upscaling, using deep learning to double pixel count for a 96MP image in about 10 seconds, either post-shot or during cropping.

The DIGIC Accelerator front-engine processor complements the proven DIGIC X, managing continuous shooting, subject detection, tracking, and autofocus, while DIGIC X handles image processing. This duo processes large data volumes quickly and supports deep learning features like In-Camera Upscaling and Neural Network Noise Reduction.

The EOS R1's comprehensive stabilization uses in-body sensor-shift, optical, and Movie Digital IS for video. The 5-axis sensor-shift system, compatible with all lenses, reduces camera shake. Coordinated Control IS with RF lenses offers up to 8.5 stops of correction at the center and 7.5 stops at the periphery. Movie Digital IS electronically stabilizes video to reduce blur.

Autofocus performance is optimized for detecting, tracking, and maintaining focus on moving subjects, even briefly obscured ones. The Dual Pixel system includes an intelligent Action Priority AF mode for sports, recognizing movements and focusing on players making specific motions. It currently supports Soccer, Basketball, and Volleyball, analyzing Ball, Joint, Torso, Action, and Head information.

The R1 also features Eye Control AF from the EOS R3, improved with faster detection and better accuracy, accommodating various eyelid thicknesses, eyelash lengths, camera holding positions, and glasses.

The camera's 9.44m-dot OLED EVF with 0.9x magnification offers clear, bright viewing, ideal for glasses-wearers, with upgraded optics to prevent fog in extreme conditions.

The EOS R1 excels in video, supporting up to 6K 60p raw and 4K 60p MP4 with 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling, using a 6K oversampling area. Proxy recording splits formats across two cards, enabling efficient post-production workflows.
