The Z6 III features a partially stacked sensor for faster scans and reduced rolling shutter and noise. This sensor design enables faster autofocus, smoother EVF, faster continuous shooting, and higher frame rates for video.

The EXPEED 7 processor, also in the Z8 and Z9, provides speeds 10x faster than the Z6II, enhancing AF speeds, burst rates, buffer capacity, video performance, and handling. Continuous shooting reaches 20 fps for raw, 60 fps for full-frame JPEG, and 120 fps for JPEGs in DX crop mode, all with full AF/AE. The electronic shutter supports a top speed of 1/16,000 sec for bright conditions and wide apertures, while the partially-stacked sensor minimizes rolling shutter distortion.

The camera features Nikon's 493-point phase-detection AF system for fast, accurate focusing. This system supports low-light shooting with Starlight mode, focusing down to -10 EV.
