The sensor’s high resolution allows for remarkable cropping versatility across nine unique aspect ratios. Complementing this sensor is FUJIFILM’s advanced X Processor 5, ensuring fast performance for continuous shooting at up to 6 fps, 4K video recording, and rapid, precise autofocus through the Intelligent Hybrid AF system.

Beyond impressive image quality, the GFX100RF is designed for creative flexibility with a dedicated Aspect Ratio Dial and Digital Teleconverter lever. Positioned above the LCD, the Aspect Ratio Dial allows seamless switching between nine formats, including 4:3, 3:4, 5:4, 1:1, 3:2, 7:6, 65:24, 17:6, and 16:9. Many of these ratios pay homage to FUJIFILM’s legacy medium format film cameras, such as the 4:3 ratio of the GX680, the 7:6 format of the GW670 and GF670, and the panoramic 65:24 from the TX-1 rangefinder. The chosen ratio is visible in the EVF or rear LCD when shooting JPEG + Raw or JPEG only, though it does not display in raw-only mode.

The front-mounted rocker lever cycles through three Digital Teleconverter settings - 45mm, 63mm, and 80mm - simulating the field of view of FUJIFILM’s GF lenses. Since the GFX100RF features a fixed 35mm f/4 lens, this function takes advantage of the high-resolution sensor to crop images while maintaining a usable resolution.

At the heart of this camera’s unique appeal is its built-in GF 35mm f/4 wide-angle prime lens, making it a fun, intuitive, and always-ready point-and-shoot option without sacrificing the stunning image quality of medium format. Equivalent to 28mm on full-frame cameras, this focal length is versatile enough for street photography, documentary work, landscapes, interiors, travel, and even close-ups with its 7.8-inch minimum focusing distance. Drawing inspiration from the X100-series, the GFX100RF incorporates a built-in 4-stop neutral density (ND) filter and a leaf shutter. The ND filter allows for slower shutter speeds or wider apertures in bright conditions, making it useful for creative motion blur or shallow depth-of-field effects. Meanwhile, the leaf shutter enables flash synchronization at any mechanical shutter speed (up to 1/4000 sec), offering greater exposure control and flexibility when using fill flash or freezing motion.

Compact yet powerful, the GFX100RF is designed for travel and everyday use, where a blend of high image quality and streamlined handling is valued. The rangefinder-inspired design features an offset viewfinder for comfortable use, reminiscent of classic film cameras as well as FUJIFILM’s X100-series and GFX 50R. Measuring just 5.3 x 3.6 x 3 inches and weighing 1.6 lb (including battery and memory cards), it is nearly half an inch smaller in every dimension and 3.5 oz lighter than the GFX 100S II body alone.

User-friendly controls include machined aluminum dials for direct shutter speed and exposure compensation adjustments, dual control dials, a focus mode switch, a manual aperture ring, an aspect ratio dial, and a digital teleconverter rocker lever. The 5.76m-dot OLED EVF offers a bright, high-resolution view with 0.84x magnification, automatically adjusting its display orientation when switching between horizontal and vertical shooting. Additionally, a 3.2-inch, 2.1m-dot LCD with a 3-way tilting design facilitates low-angle shooting in various orientations and features touchscreen functionality for quick settings adjustments and focus selection.

Although primarily designed for photography, the GFX100RF also supports high-quality DCI/UHD 4K video recording at up to 30p with 10-bit color. Videos can be recorded internally in H.265 and H.264 formats or externally in ProRes 422 via the USB-C port for professional workflows.

True to FUJIFILM’s heritage, the GFX100RF includes 20 Film Simulation modes, including Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome, REALA ACE, PRO Neg. Std, PRO Neg. Hi, Classic Neg., Nostalgic Neg., Eterna Cinema, Eterna Bleach Bypass, Acros, and multiple black-and-white options. These modes provide photographers with creative ways to emulate the look of FUJIFILM’s iconic film stocks while maintaining the benefits of digital flexibility.
