Leica Q3 43 Digital Camera (Black)

A first in the Q series, the Leica Q3 43 maintains the same power and portability but now features a longer APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH lens. Geared towards those seeking more reach over a wider field of view, this new sibling of the original Q3 is tailored for portrait photographers and everyday users looking for a more natural and narrower perspective compared to the original's 28mm lens.

Aside from lens changes and some cosmetic updates, the Q3 43 retains the core features of the Q3: a high-performance 60MP full-frame sensor, hybrid autofocus, 8K video recording, and the same ergonomic design that made the original a versatile choice for various shooting needs.

Borrowing from the M11 and original Q3, the Q3 43 is equipped with the same high-resolution 60MP full-frame CMOS sensor. The back-illuminated (BSI) design improves noise control and speeds up readouts, benefiting both photo and video capture. This resolution excels for detailed applications, like landscapes and architecture, while the BSI tech enhances clarity and color accuracy in low-light environments.

The 60MP sensor also allows for unique digital zoom capabilities, simulating different focal lengths: a 1.4x crop mimics a 60mm lens, a 1.7x crop simulates a 75mm, a 2x crop matches a 90mm, a 2.8x crop replicates a 120mm, and a 3.5x crop mirrors a 150mm lens.

Like the M11 and Q3, the Q3 43 supports Triple Resolution Technology. This pixel binning process enables photographers to choose between 60MP, 36MP, or 18MP, all using the full sensor area with 14-bit color and a 14-stop dynamic range.

Powered by the Maestro IV processor and 8GB of buffer memory, the Q3 43 is built for both stills and video, with quick performance for Triple Resolution Technology, a wide ISO range of 50-100000, continuous shooting up to 15 fps, and smooth EVF and LCD usage.

With its unique 43mm focal length, the Q3 43 provides a natural, distortion-free perspective akin to the human eye. This versatile lens is ideal for everything from landscapes to portraits and street photography. Like its sibling, the Q3, it also features a Macro mode for close-up shots down to 10.4 inches.

Leica also developed a new APO lens for this model. The APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH features apochromatic correction for high color accuracy, free of fringing and color aberrations. Aspherical elements ensure sharpness, low distortion, and excellent contrast. It's a versatile lens combining a bright f/2 aperture, impressive color fidelity, and high sharpness.

Enhanced by the powerful processor and updated sensor, the Q3 43 employs a hybrid AF system, combining phase-detection, contrast-detection, and depth from defocus (DFD) for quicker and more accurate focusing, especially with moving subjects or mixed lighting. The phase-detection AF also enables intelligent subject tracking for eyes, faces, bodies, and animals.
